The theme of our staff devotions lately have been on the subject of staying in tune with God by "abiding" in Him.
John 15:4 says, "Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful apart from Me."
Recently, I cut back some branches from a tree in my front yard. It is amazing how quickly those live branches turn from green to brown, from pliable and not easily snapped to dead and brittle. I thought about the seasons of my own life and that without daily fellowship with God, how quickly I can go from walking in the fruits of the Spirit to a life filled with brittleness.
An area that reflects this most in my life is patience. I've noticed that without a constant walking in the Spirit that I seem to lose my peace more and more easily "snap", just like the dead branches that were cut from the tree.
The good news is that unlike those branches, with time in the Word and refreshing that comes with abiding in God's presence, I can be restored to a place of life and peace and become pliable again. We can be "re-attached" to the tree that is still full of life.
So, I am encouraging myself and others to live under the fountain of peace and life. To walk daily in His presence and see good fruit produced that comes only by being attached to the life-giver. Allow God to speak to you and through you on a daily basis.
Stay tuned up!
