Doing good for God's glory
Galatians 6:9 says, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
We often make excuses for not doing good things because we're afraid that if we do something extraordinary for one person, it will be expected of us for all people. This is not biblical thinking. God calls us to do for one, what we would like to do for all - even if we can't do it for all.
I Peter 4:8-11 instructs us on this further: "Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless-cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God's words; if help, let it be God's hearty help. That way, God's bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he'll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything-encores to the end of time."
While each of us can't eradicate poverty or change the world, we can impact those around us for Christ and show them the love of God. It comes one person, one act of love at a time. Find one person for whom you can do good and then do it as unto the Lord. Or, join with an organization like Global Action that is focused on changing the world for God - one person and one community at a time.
Remember, if we abide in Christ, we WILL bear MUCH fruit (John 15:5). So, don't grow weary while doing good - do good for the glory of God. Shine the light of His love - one good deed at a time. We will shine His light and He will get the credit and glory through our acts of love and kindness.
