Announcing a Leadership Change
June 1 2016 in Colorado Springs, CO
Dear Friends and Partners of Global Action,
Global Action is excited to share some important news with you. We are delighted to introduce our new president, Rev. RJ Koerper. RJ assumed his new role recently, replacing our previous president, Phil Long. Phil remains with Global Action as a board member but has moved to a new career opportunity.
RJ is ideally suited to carry out our mission of training pastors for the rapidly growing church around the world. He knows Global Action well. RJ has been training pastors as part of our GLOMOS program. He knows well, our desire to empower church leadership around the world to make disciples of all nations.
In the past two years, we sharpened that focus even further by training the best of our graduates to teach GLOMOS classes in their own regions. The result has had a two-fold effect: 1) we are able to train those pastors in the most remote locations, which increases the number we are able to reach; and 2) we are able to train local pastors even more cost effectively. RJ has been part of that process, having worked with Phil to "train the trainers" through our ongoing efforts in Central America.
In this one case, from the 35 trainers that we trained in Honduras this year, Global Action now has 330 students in 14 locations in a country where only 3 years ago, we had 1 class with 28 students. These students will go on to pastor churches with an average of 55 members each. And, we are able to do this at a fraction of the cost per student as we have been able to do in the past. That is true multiplication!
None of this would be possible without prayer and financial partners like you...thank you!
Earlier this year, Phil Long, GA president for the last four years, began to feel that it was time to step aside as president and that God was raising up a new leader to take GA through this next season. After much prayer and thought, the board asked RJ Koerper to join GA as our next president. RJ brings 29 years of teaching experience at the university and graduate levels, 20 years as a Christian counselor, and 6 years on staff as a pastor. He has been a part of the Global Action vision for five years, teaching and interacting with our staff several times a year, and has been a big part of our curriculum rewrite process.
RJ has accepted the call to Global Action and is now in place as the new Global Action president and we are all excited about the future of the ministry. The board is delighted to have someone with his skills, vision, and knowledge of the ministry leading the organization forward on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, Phil Long will continue to provide his expertise and insights as a member of our board.
As partners in this endeavor, what you generously give makes the work of Global Action possible. During this next season, your prayers and gifts are even more strategic in equipping leaders who in turn are equipping the next generation of leaders.
We ask for your ongoing support of our new team with RJ at the helm, along with your continued financial gifts and prayers. Many opportunities to expand into new territory and to do our part in fulfilling the Great Commission of Christ, are before us. Thanks for standing with Global Action and partnering with us in this great work!
Chairman, Global Action Board
A Note from RJ Koerper
I am so excited to be coming on board with Global Action as the new president. I have been teaching for GLOMOS since 2011, and most recently have been part of the curriculum rewrite team. In January, Phil Long and I met with 35 of our best students from Honduras and we cast the vision of taking GLOMOS to the next level-equipping them to teach GLOMOS classes in their different regions in Honduras. They left our two-day training focused and on fire to teach our curriculum to students they were going to recruit. Within a few weeks student enrollment was over 330! God is doing something BIG through Global Action and as we move forward, we want to make certain we are doing our part in providing the best curriculum and the best teachers to equip these new teachers. Even more so now, this strategy goes to the core of our mission at Global Action: Disciples making disciples!
As I transition to serving full time with Global Action in June, I am leaving my current position as teaching and discipleship pastor at Northern Hills Church in Brighton, Colorado. Northern Hills is my community, an active financial supporter of Global Action; and I will continue to teach for them Sunday mornings when I can and be part of that congregation. They have seen firsthand what GLOMOS is doing when our youth group went with me last year to El Faro to build a house, and I had the privilege of helping Rick Thompson teach the Old Testament module that same week. My wife Ermie, who works as a software analyst for Staples, went with us on that trip and travels with me whenever she can to our GLOMOS destinations. We just returned from teaching the Leadership module in Ukraine.
I am so grateful for Phil Long's ongoing personal support and for the Global Action board's guidance and encouragement as we move forward. God is up to something big and we want to be right in the middle of doing our part to expand His Kingdom worldwide. I am also so grateful for your support through your prayers and financial giving. I would love to hear from you and hear how God is working in your community. Better yet, I would love to come and spend time with you if it is doable and talk about ministry possibilities. Your partnership with Global Action is crucial as God takes our ministry to the next level. I wish you all of His best as we move forward together!
For His Kingdom,
P.S. Please pray and consider making an extra donation, above and beyond your regular support,
