From Hindu Priesthood to House Church Planter: Pastor Hari’s Story

“Before coming to the Lord, I was a devoted follower of Sai Baba (Hinduism), as my father was a priest in the Sai Baba faith. I used to share its teachings and messages with those around me. However, despite my active involvement, I never experienced true joy.” Hari recalls.

Christ radically rescued not only him, but his entire household with him in 2006. He found the joy and freedom in Jesus Christ that he had been longing for. A committed follower of Christ, he joyfully took up the mantle of sharing Jesus with those around him. But even from spiritual death to new life, in 2018 he found himself in a battle with blood cancer.

Again, God restored life to Pastor Hari. “It was a severe trial for me and my family—so much so that I nearly gave up on my faith and calling. But God, in His mercy, healed me from that dreadful disease,” Hari continues.

After being healed from cancer, he recommitted his life to vocational ministry.

“The Foundations program came into my life at just the right time, equipping me with solid biblical training. Shortly after graduating, God opened the door for me—I was asked by my church to step into the role of Senior Pastor. Today, I oversee our main church in Duga along with four other fellowships in the Rangpo area. I am deeply grateful for the Foundations program, which has given me a strong biblical foundation to serve with confidence and clarity.”

He now shepherds 50-60 souls in his church network! With his background as a first generation believer, God has equipped him to minister to a flock of mostly first generation Christians as well. He places a strong emphasis on evangelism and discipleship among his flock, actively equipping his church members to share the Good News with their non-believing families, friends, and neighbors. His passionate hope is to see more new churches planted across various communities.

From Hindu priesthood to new life to cancer to changing the world for Christ: Pastor Hari continues to make a return on the investment of Christ’s redemption in his life.
