#GivingTuesday 2018 Press Release

GLOBAL ACTION PARTICIPATES IN #GIVINGTUESDAY 2018

Colorado Springs, Colorado, September 1, 2018: This #GivingTuesday, Global Action will celebrate its second year of participation in the worldwide giving campaign. The 20-year organization will ask for donations to continue its work through its GLOMOS pastoral training programs that are strategically located in developing countries around the world.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

Global Action joined the #GivingTuesday campaign to bring awareness to the need of effective church leader training in developing countries. Most Christian pastoral leaders in these countries have little to no formal biblical training because of their remote location, poverty, or lack of general education (many never advanced beyond 8th grade). Global Action is uniquely positioned to reach a rapidly increasing number of villages and communities in a wholistic and sustainable way. Along with partners and donors, Global Action is working to provide pastors with a solid foundation for a healthy church and equip them with the skills and resources to conduct effective community outreaches, plant churches and multiply disciple-makers, and reach children and youth with the Gospel.

“For twenty years the mission of Global Action has been to equip and empower under-resourced Christian leaders in developing world countries. We strongly believe the most effective use of charitable giving is to provide a strong “hand UP” rather than a one-time “hand OUT”. The leadership training we provide and the subsequent resourcing network that forms out of it has been amazingly effective in transforming communities around the world. The support we get through #GivingTuesday impacts generations of future leaders,” states Rick Thompson, Global Action’s President.

Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.

“We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and Executive Director of 92Y. “As we prepare for November 27, we’re energized and encouraged by the community’s generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people have contributed and shared are phenomenal.”

It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
